Analog Intelligence, Artists’ Reception

Gallery Three Six One proudly presents, for its inaugural exhibition,
“Analog Intelligence”
Artists: David Winthrop Hanson & Hesh Hipp

Analog Intelligence is an exploration of the continuum between film photography and
generative AI. The exhibition features seven large-scale compositions that map a direct
genealogy from the physical to the synthetic. Each work begins with an original analog photograph captured on film. The image is then
“viewed” by a Large Language Model (LLM), which translates the visual data into a verbatim text
description. Those descriptions were then used as prompts to generate digital derivatives. By
presenting the film original alongside these AI descendants, Hanson and Hipp pose questions
about the evolution of images and the role of technology in the artistic process.
